The Best Place to Raise Your Kids in Florida
Why do you live where you live? Do you have family nearby? Is your job keeping you grounded? Are you stuck because of the housing market? Are you just in your comfort zone? Whatever the reason, the community where you live has a huge effect on you, your children, your values and how you go about your daily life. For those of you that are ready for a change of environment and are focusing on what area would be the best to raise your family in, you might find the results of Business Week’s latest study quite interesting.
An article that appeared in Business Week titled “The Best Places to Raise Your Kids 2009” was recently released. Business Week, along with OnBoard Informatics, performed this study and named the best place to raise kids in each of the 50 states according to these factors:
- Towns with 50,000 + residents
- Median family income between $40,000 – $100,000
- School performance
- number of schools
- Household Expenditures
- Crime Rates
- Air Quality
- Job Growth
- Museums, parks, theaters, etc
- Diversity
The results are in, and the winner for Florida is ….
Pembroke Pines
Yes, this city of just over 165,000, in between Fort Lauderdale and Miami won the title this year. They were noted for their good schools and their low crime rate. (and you can’t forget they just added a pretty nice outdoor mall to the line-up.)

Hahaha that’s funny. What next? Which of the former Soviet bloc countries is the best place to raise kids? Seriously though, South Florida is not a place to raise kids for a multitude of reasons. South Florida is the place to be when you are young and single, but if you settle down with a family, leave Florida.

Florida i s beautiful place to live. I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and i remember my childhood being great. I live in Phoenix, Arizona right now and I’m actually moving back to Florida to raise my son. Don’t get me wrong Florida is a big singles place but it also has a lot for the family to do. Beaches, theme parks, and plus the schools are great. Your going to have areas that are bad but thats with any state. Dont knock until you try it.
South Florida is a very complicated city of 5,000,000 habitants. It has a very high unemployment rate. It is one of the least educated cities in America. When I first came to south florida in 1993, I thought that I landed in a third world country.
I will agree that there are some nice parts here, but you better get ready to spend some money. Areas like pinecrest, and coral gables although nice are extremely expensive.
I agree with most families in that South Florida is not a place to raise kids.
