The events keep coming in for Art Basel, so plan your night out right and you will be sure to have an enjoyable evening.

Here are some options:

131 Projects presents Paradise Lost at Buck 15 at 9:00 pm tonight, December 3rd: As part of Art Basel, 15 artists were invited to interpret the literary piece Paradise Lost for a showcase at Buck 15. What is Paradise Lost? It’s the epic poem by poet John Milton published in 1667 depicting the temptation of Adam and Eve by the angel. To further go into detail, Jame Kelly published an article in Time Magazine in 1961 by that same name examining Miami as a cross between a tourist city and a crime capital, ie. loss due to temptation. Buck 15 is located at 707 Lincoln Road (above Miss Yip) in Miami Beach. There will be a performance by Jose el Rey at 12:00 am.
Ruthless & Toothless at the Townhouse Hotel – Check out this visual interpretation of Ruthless & Toothless with works of art by Chris Garver, Darren Brass, Yoji Harada of TV’s Miami Ink, James Hamilton and Mike Walls. Doors open at 8:00 pm. The Townhouse Hotel is located at 150 20th Street in Miami Beach.
Dolce Industry Wednesdays welcome Art Basel Miami Beach Vernisagge After Party. Get inspired by the works of Jean-Michel Basquait, Marcela Di Santo, John Berry, Thomas Brewitz, Dmitri, Laurence Gartel and Marc Marshall. Visuals will be presented by Psyberpixie and a fashion show and body painting will be presented by Baye. All of this takes place at Gemma Lounge located at 529 Lincoln Road in South Beach. Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show at the Fountainebleau

Were you one of the lucky ones to score tickets to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show at the Fountainebleau this past weekend? This annual holiday lingerie extravaganza made its way to Miami Beach this past weekend as part of Fountainebleau’s star-studded grand re-opening. Usher kicked off the show, and he was soon joined by 35 supermodels decked out with their Angel wings including the much loved Heidi Klum. If you failed to get tickets to this show, don’t worry as it will air on CBS on December 3rd at 10:00 pm.

George Michael Comes to the Bank Atlantic Center

George Michael is back in South Florida with his tour for his latest album Twenty Five that was released in North America on April 1, 2008. After successful runs in his original 25 Live tour in 2006 and his European “25 Live Stadium Tour 2007″ it was inevitable that he move forward with a North American tour. This is his first tour in North America in 17 years and highlights of TwentyFive, a 29-song, 2 disc compilation of George Michael’s best work along with 6 new releasees. It’s Time to Visit a New Museum

As much as I complain about Bank of America month after month, I still manage to give them my business. Why? Initially it was convenience as I used to be able to do my grocery shopping and my banking in the same trip, but that stopped years ago when Publix closed the B of A in my local store, but I’m still there.

I recently learned of a new perk that Bank of America added to their accounts (checking, debit or credit cards) called the Museums on Us program. This program allows card holders to receive free admission to nearly 70 museums nationwide on the first weekend of every month all year long just by presenting your Bank of America card. And for those of you that tend to be a little forgetful, they even send text message reminders.

Here’s a list of museums that honor the B of A card in Florida:

Marquis and The Miami Art in Public Places Initiative

Being closely involved in education and an advocate of the arts, it often made me sad when I heard about the arts programs being eliminated from many schools. As more budgets get cut, these programs are disappearing all over. So when I heard about a new condo development in Miami pairing up with the Miami Art Museum (MAM), it got me excited. Marquis, an exclusive development in Miami operated by RockResorts, is located in the Park West District. It combines both residences and a boutique hotel into an art-themed living area. It is 67 stories tall and is the 2nd tallest building in Miami. No worries as it also has the fastest private high-speed elevators in the southeast. This building is scheduled to be complete in spring 2009.

Marquis has established partnership with the Miami Art Museum (MAM) to offer membership benefits to the residents. They felt that this would be a perfect match to foster a lifestyle that goes along with Miami’s growing art and cultural scene. The developer is also in talks with other cultural institutions to offer its residents a complete, well-rounded cultural experience. The architecture also plays up the art identity and they will feature exclusive artwork as a part of the City’s Art in Public Places Initiative. Along with the art initiative, Marquis offers many unique luxuries including an 8,000 square foot signature spa and fitness center, bars and restaurants, a sky pool deck with a sunrise lap pool and lagoon-style sunset pool.

Rubi Rey and the 86 Collective

Back in May, I posted about The 86 Collective - a digital arts revolution. Well, the time has come and the exhibit will launch next week at the Art Center/South Florida. Once again, the collection will boast a gallery of 86 works created by well established and talented artists in the digital art medium. The exhibit will kick off next Friday, July 18th at an invite only reception hosted by Ami James, star of Miami Ink and owner of Love Hate Tattoos. The exhibit will remain open through July 26th.

Who’s That Girl?

The Sweet & Sticky Tour is Madonna’s 8th world concert tour, and will be held to promote her already popular album, Hard Candy. This album has an urban/hip-hop feel to it and features vocal appearances by Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Pharrell Williams and Kanye West. Madonna will be touring throughout Europe and North America, and will make a stop in Miami on November 26th at the Dolphin Stadium (the only performance in Florida and merely the last on the tour schedule at the moment). Tickets range from $55 – $350 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster. You can also sign up here to win tickets through New Times.

Late Night Comedy

You have Shorts 4 Kids, Signature Shorts and now, you have the more provocative and risque take on late night comedy – Undershorts. Being presented at the Adrienne Arsht Center (formerly the Carnival Center), these short plays will knock your socks off. They are centered around themes such as sexual appetites, the birds and the bees, education, mother/daughter relationships and weapons, and they take the material to the limit. These plays are not for everyone though, as children under 17 will not be admitted, and I’d recommend that if you get easily offended, you should stay home as well. Playing now through Saturday, June 21st, buy your tickets soon.

Also playing at the Adrienne Arsht Center is The Life & Music of Celia Cruz – a look at the 60-year journey of this salsa diva.

Adrienne Arsht Center is located at 1300 Biscayne Blvd in Miami.

We are overwhelmed by media. Day in and day out TV Commercials, Internet ads, radio and magazines cross our paths. How do we know what to believe as being factual and the true opinions of the editors and how do we know which is simply paid advertising? It’s hard to distinguish between.
